For some years now, the Review has dared to point out something uncomfortable that the media chooses to ignore: despicable as his other habits may have been, Richard Nixon, on domestic issues, was our last liberal presidents.
Now Richard Brenneman notes that George Will beat us to the punch, making the point in 1996. As proof, Brenneman points out that Nixon "advocated a guaranteed annual income for all Americans as well as wage and price controls, a pushed aggressively for integration of Southern schools. It was also Nixon who pushed for a national healthcare program that was in many respects, more radical than Obamacare."
